If you are planning to do some work on an interior door and you need to plane down the bottom to clear new carpet, mark the top of your door before you take it off the hinges in order to ensure that you cut the bottom and NOT the top.
Score your cut with a razor knife first so that you don't end up with splinters. Then, take some painter's tape and put it along your marked line.
